Pickled & Pressed has recently opened their doors in the The Junction and we couldn't be more impressed! This beautiful plant based cafe has a developing menu, loaded with healthful, whole food options aimed at promoting a joyful experience. The decor is clean and simple, with a focus on sustainability and recycling. And their philosophy is simple, to help people and the planet thrive together.
Alice and Tib's vision for Pickled & Pressed reflects the same vision they have for their company Living Joy; building community around sustainable practices, and creating change with every small action.
Their aim is to become 100% waste free by recycling, reusing, and minimising wherever possible. They even convinced their coffee supplier to start using compostable bags for their coffee beans!
The sustainability philosophy applies to all parts of Pickled & Pressed. Chairs are left unsealed to stop harmful fumes being released into the atmosphere and the flooring and tables have been constructed from recycled building site waste. Even all the plants that fill the venue with pops of green have been rescued.
As the business grows, Pickled & Pressed are working on doing everything they possibly can in house. Customers will be able to enjoy the health benefits of house made living foods and fermented drinks such as kombucha and water kefir, fermented pickles, and the house range of plant based milks for hot drinks. They'll be doing a lot of this with the aid of their epic cold pressed juicer pictured above, which takes pride of place in the kitchen. Pop by any time they're open for a beautiful cold pressed juice jar with a delightfully clean flavour.
On to the food! Chef Heather is taking inspiration from cuisines the world over to create a plant based menu which aligns strongly with the Pickled & Pressed values. All of the food served will be gluten free, preservative free, refined sugar free and whole food based. Customers will be able choose from a range of dishes both raw and cooked knowing that they're nourishing their bodies while also enjoying a delicious cafe meal.
Pictured above is the beautiful smoothie bowl, filled with frozen fruits and berries, and even a little spinach has been snuck in for a hit of iron. Expect dishes to change with the seasons as Pickled & Pressed head to the farmers market to look for produce at its peak.
Lovers of savoury foods won't be disappointed by the menu. At breakfast time the dosa is not to be missed. This savoury buckwheat crepe is filled with a flavourful filling of Indian spiced pulses and topped with a cashew based raita and fresh salsa. This is a dish that will fuel you up with energy to keep you going all day.
Pickled & Pressed have not forgotten their sweet toothed customers. Peer into the counter fridge to see what delicious sweets the kitchen has come up with. A selection of vegan cheesecakes, bliss balls and nut based desserts offer up a nutrient rich alternative to heavily processed flour and cane sugar based cakes for a sugar craving. Pair any of their beautiful desserts with a turmeric latte or hot cacao for a caffeine free afternoon treat.
This spring spend some time in the Pickled & Pressed courtyard soaking up the sun and appreciating all their beautiful plants in bloom. Throughout the courtyard you can see the Pickled & Pressed ethos in action. Planter boxes and furniture are all constructed using recycled palettes, hessian sacks protect little succulents and greenery fills every single space that isn't somewhere to sit! Over time you'll be able to watch this space evolve in to a kitchen garden with fresh herbs and greens growing in vertical gardens on the walls.
