The Persian Place is found in Newcastle on the corner of Bolton and King Streets. The restaurant is spectacularly decked out with beautiful rugs and solid timber furniture, the setting preparing diners for the outstanding food.
On the menu you'll find more than half a dozen items that are vegan or easily veganized. Everything is cooked from scratch and the chef is incredibly accommodating, for our visit even calling up the Inner City Winemakers to check which of their wines was vegan friendly.
At The Persian Place you can expect beautifully cooked vegetables and richly spiced dishes. Each dish inspired by family recipes from the chef's Iranian family, refined and presented in a modern way.
What is wonderful about the style of dining, mezze, is the sharing. This meal is designed to be shared, pick a few dishes from the menu and share amongst your party, eat slowly and sample everything.
In our group it was extremely difficult for us to decide on a firm favourite amongst the fantastic range of dishes we were served. We started with marinated olives with walnuts, flatbreads and hummus. Then moved on the the tart and fresh pomegranate salad pictured above.
Mushrooms were stuffed with roasted vegetables and lentils then topped with fresh herbs and pomegranate ;eggplants were roasted whole and stuffed with a deliciously rich filling of roasted eggplant then flavoured with spices, tomato and onion.
The Persian Place offers a great selection of dishes for vegans, has a beautiful setting and attentive, friendly staff. It's a great location for a casual meal or a special occasion.
The full menu is available on their Facebook page, linked on The Persian Place website which is currently under construction. Visit at lunch times for bargain lunch specials for $10-$12. We will certainly be back soon as we didn't get a chance to try their falafels.
